#AtoZChallenge Lessons Learned At 30: "Adventure On"

I am going to be honest (bitter!) - I live a difficult life and sometimes I feel like a hamster stuck in a wheel that wouldn't stop. That is what doing chores, running errands, and managing a home rentals business feels like. This hamster wheel phenomenon began a few years ago. It combined with my grad school life and presented itself as a vicious monster aiming to eat my happiness.
There was suddenly a Eureka moment (can't point to when exactly!) and I decided to find adventure in whatever it is that I was juggling with. If you make friends with it, it won't kill you (happened in Jurassic World! Ending scenes!).
So I set out to depict myself as the female lead in my thriller movie. My daily routine and challenges worked out as if life was on repeat-play mode and the record kept looping. Everything had started to feel like noise to me. So I decided to change my perspective a bit. After all, when Bilbo thought about it he could see the adventure!
I started out by sharing my landlady life and its troubles (roach infestation! fallen trees! clogged Johns!) in a comical way on social media. I ranted about grad school and MBA studies (honor roll! GPA obsession!). And, I started taking crazy photos and recording videos on my chores and errands trips to markets. I also started scooping out humor in the skeleton's pelvic floor models at pain management offices! Sharing on social media gave me a satisfying high, doing things like making movies and taking photos made me push new boundaries, and blogging about it in a comical way killed boredom (a lot of it). At the end of the day I prevented extreme burnout and going insane!
Finding humorous adventure in something nasty works like casting a Riddikulus spell on a Boggart and dumbfounding it with laughter!
So you get the picture? I have posted quite a few (animated ones!). My idea of an adventure does not involve jumping from an airplane, a bungee cord, or diving down to walk the ocean floor. I can be found enjoying an adventure in photographing a live lobster at Giant food stores lobster tank, dressing up Gryffindor at The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter, or putting together a seasonal crafts decor in my study! Nevertheless, the adventures must not cease!

  1. Glad that we chose almost the same word for starting. I didn't explain it in the post, but I have the same concept of adventure that you have, I think.

  2. Excellent use of gifs! :) And excellent point on adventures. I am a Ravenclaw myself, and I believe that bungee cords are excessive when one can find interesting (and much safer) experiences in everyday life too :)

  3. And we live vicariously through your adventures! Honestly, I think it's great that you have been able to find humour in your life. I think that's what celebrates ordinary lives from those that seem extraordinary. What would I do with looks, money, and sycophants I can't stand anyway? ;)

  5. I'm glad I found your blog (my idea of adventure doesn't involve jumping from a plane either hehe). I really love the way you've made everyday life into a thriller/adventure, that's such a great way to prevent burnout.

I’m taking part in the A-Z challenge for the first time this year. :) I’m a writer, stepping outside my comfort zone and delving into crime writing. My theme is: Secret Diary Of A Serial Killer. http://nataliewestgate.com/2017/04/anna-secret-diary-of-a-serial-killer
