Gulgulay: Fried Whole Wheat Banana Dumplings

  • White whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup + a couple of tablespoons
  • Milk, 1/2 cup
  • Sugar, 1/4 cup or zero calorie sweetener (10-13 sachets of Equal)
  • Cardamom powder, 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mashed banana, 1/2 of one large banana
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying
  • In a mixing bowl, add flour and baking soda. 
  • In a cup, mix milk, cardamom powder, and sugar/sweetener.
  • Gradually, while stirring with fork, add the milk mixture to the flour in the mixing bowl.
  • Add mashed banana and mix well.
  • Heat oil for deep frying. 
  • Use a tablespoon to pour batter into the oil and fry the dumplings until golden brown. 
  • Test for sugar by frying one dumpling first and add more to the batter according to taste.
  • Serve hot!
