Lord Of The Rings Superstar Cake by Sara's Baked Creations
The LOTR Superstar was Sara's quantum leap on roads to establishing herself as a great baker, God Willing. She baked multiple sheets of round, vanilla cakes and assembled them into two enormous tiers. There was serious technical baker's skill and artistic talent involved in this cake.
The first tier was dedicated to my interest in the Lord Of The Rings movie trilogy. It was constructed to look like a Hobbit Hole straight from The Shire, Hobbiton. Besides stacking two cake sheets to make the top tier, a semi-circular cake piece was propped up to create the Hobbit Hole's entrance. The Gandalf, Bilbo, Frodo, and Gollum toppers were purchased by Sara online. She frosted the top tier green, completely, and then used sprinkles to create a sandy path and decorating tips to make grass accents.
The second, gigantic tier followed the Superstar theme. Sara used a rose frosting technique to make red, yellow, and blue roses. She didn't have the 1mm frosting tip at that time, so they came out as spirals (as she said), to me they were roses nevertheless. The ice cream cones she built into this tear gave this cake a Willy Wonka's factory look, it was stunning. The ice cream cone wafers were cut in halves along their lengths and filled with vanilla frosting, decorated with sprinkle. To add the Superstar bit (she calls me a Superstar Abbie), she used Superman logo toppers! Also, she used Wilton's yellow chocolate melts to mold out stars! The molds were simple ice cube molds.
The LOTR theme continued outside and around the cake. From the leftover batter of her cakes, she caked cupcakes. These were topped with green frosting, accented to look like grass. Using specially ordered molds, she made rings from yellow chocolate melts. Precious! Gollum sat there between them all, wondering which one to pick!
The star candles went into other cupcakes to continue the Superstar theme.
I must say, this was THE BEST CAKE I've seen and eaten in my entire life! God bless the baker. Join her adventures on her Facebook page Sara's Baked Creations.
