The first day was a wee bit chaotic, but worth it. The weekend was spent shopping a ton of fruits, getting the decorations in order, and finalizing the preparations for Ramadan. The decorations got their final look! I printed out countdown numbers for each goody bag to count down the fasts. The idea was to gift Ramadan baskets to the nieces with the gorgeous cookies by Sara's Baked Creations ••• The first goody bag had Musketeers 🍫
Seriously low energy level today. That Kit Kat mini coming out of the Ramadan countdown treat bag was the highlight of the day ••• I resumed reading the Tafsir (exegesis) of the Quran. High time! 9 more volumes to go ••• The llama mug featured is called “Kabab” by the way ••• I specially got it for the post-Iftar Chai time that’s a must for the pounding headache ••• Mannee is loving the goody bags and her new Ramadan book ••• more on those later.
Extreme noise levels with 2 canon ball nieces ••• They’re the Energizer bunnies wanting activities 24/7 ••• Cartoon time and crafts are saving our souls ••• Lots of humor passes between Sara and I during the cooking hours of the day ••• For instance she posed as the socialite aunty wishing me Ramzan Mubarak and making sure she mispronounced it as Mubarik ... and then an energy low kicks in after 3pm and we take to the living room sofa to pass out.
Nightly hours. Around 11pm I am taking my Chai ☕️ these days because the fast is broken around 8pm and eating and drinking at that hour (higher calories than my 180 calorie meals) doesn’t leave room for Chai. The No Drama Llama is from Walmart if someone wishes to enjoy it. So I read the #Quran over Chai (figured it’s a less panicky time spot).
One whole wheat paratha (flaky flatbread thingy), one chicken piece (preferable a drumstick, cooked in curry), and an egg! Plus, chugging of at least 8 fluid ounces of water ... and then more, thinking it won't suffice. All that puts you in a 'difficult' condition and bending in prayer feel like it might trigger an explosion! Feeling distended in the pre-sunrise hours is typical of Ramadan season.
Rooh Afza *standing ovation* --- this is possibly why conquerors of the world attacked the South Asian subcontinent. This sweet, aromatic concoction is the delicious syrup that I dilute with water and a tablespoon of milk at Iftar (fast-breaking) time. The only trouble is, each year I underestimate and bring only one bottle. And, it threateningly begins to reduce in volume after a week!
